Frequently Asked Questions
What is Integrative Medicine?
The Arizona Center for Integrative Medicine defines Integrative Medicine as "healing-oriented medicine that takes account of the whole person, including all aspects of lifestyle.  It emphasizes the therapeutic relationship between practitioner and patient, is informed by evidence, and makes use of all appropriate therapies."  Andrew Weil, the father of Integrative Medicine, says that Integrative Medicine is the "intelligent combination of conventional and alternative medicine...it is trying to restore the focus of medicine on health and healing, away from disease symptom management."
What is Functional Medicine?
The Institute for Functional Medicine says that "Functional Medicine addresses the underlying causes of disease, using a systems-oriented approach and engaging both the patient and practitioner in a therapeutic partnership."  Functional Medicine searches for the root cause of disease and shifts the focus of medicine on addressing the source of disease rather than symptom management.
Is this alternative medicine?
No.  Alternative medicine implies that an alternative to conventional medicine and wisdom is pursued.  Integrative Medicine makes use of all appropriate therapies, whether conventional or alternative, that have evidence to support their use and safety.

Will you be my Primary Care Physician?
No.  Dr. Cotter provides consultations only.  She welcomes the opportunity to work in partnership with your primary care provider or other specialists.  However, she does not provide primary care or emergency services.  We require that our patients continue to maintain a relationship with their primary care provider and specialists.  The key word is "integrate".
Do you have a specialty?

Do you accept insurance?

Do you have a cancellation policy?
Yes.  We require 3 business days advance notice of a cancellation in order to refund the deposit.
What methods of payment do you accept?
Cash, check, and credit cards are accepted.  There is a 3.5% charge for credit card payments.
